Position Summary
The Seasonal & Sports Supervisor supports the Department Manager in leading a high-traffic, high-change department. This role focuses on excellent customer experience, strong execution of retail basics, timely promotional/seasonal changeovers, and effective coaching of team members. The Supervisor ensures the department is safe, full, well-signed, and ready for customers—especially during peak seasons and major transitions.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks

Customer Experience & Service

  • Leads by example and consistently delivers a helpful, friendly, and solutions-focused customer experience.

  • Coaches and holds team members accountable to greet, engage, and assist customers while balancing tasks and service.

  • Handles escalated concerns and supports resolution of product/service questions (including seasonal availability and substitutions).

Seasonal Execution & Merchandising

  • Plays a key role in planning and executing seasonal changeovers (e.g., spring/summer, back-to-school, fall, winter/holiday), ensuring deadlines and standards are met.

  • Ensures endcaps, features, signage/pricing, planograms, and promotional sets are completed accurately and on time.

  • Performs daily walks and follow-up on task lists; reallocates support as priorities shift (customer volume, deliveries, promotions).

  • Maintains strong department presentation: facing, holes, labels, cleanliness, safe top-stock, and fixture organization.

  • Supports product readiness and selling confidence for sports and seasonal categories (e.g., outdoor recreation, fitness, winter sports, team sports, seasonal living) through ongoing learning and coaching.

  • Helps coordinate workflows between floor, backroom, and cross-functional teams to keep high-volume areas full and customer-ready.

Inventory & Shrink Awareness

  • Supports inventory accuracy through hole checks, bin cap/stock level reviews, replenishment routines, and identifying variances.

  • Reports damaged/stolen goods and helps follow store processes to reduce shrink and maintain safe merchandising.

  • Helps the Department Manager drive productivity through clear delegation, coaching, and consistent follow-up.

People Leadership & Training

  • Helps onboard, train, and coach associates to improve product knowledge, service behaviours, and execution standards.

  • Recognizes strong performance, provides timely feedback, and supports a respectful, inclusive, and team-oriented environment.

  • Helps run quick huddles/department updates and ensures the team is aware of key promotions, priorities, and standards.

Health & Safety / Policy Compliance

  • Ensures compliance with store policies and health & safety requirements, and immediately reports hazards or unsafe conditions.

  • Uses professional language and appearance standards; supports confidentiality and respectful workplace expectations.

Requirements

  • Experience in retail sales/operations; prior leadership, keyholder, trainer, or acting supervisor experience preferred.

  • Working knowledge (or ability to quickly learn) Sports and Seasonal products and department routines.

  • Comfortable using retail technology (RF/handheld, inventory/look-up tools, basic computer systems).

  • Cash handling / register experience is an asset.

  • Work experience in a warehouse/distribution environment, in a Canadian Tire store, is also considered an asset.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

  • Standing/walking for extended periods (up to an 8-hour shift).

  • Lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling merchandise (light to heavy), including reaching above shoulder level and using ladders as needed.

Schedule

  • Full-time with flexibility required (days, evenings, weekends). Peak periods may require additional availability.
